Clearance sales and gourmet treats in Saint-Tropez
Published on in Saint-Tropez
As it does each year, the world-famous clearance sale makes its autumn appearance on the narrow streets of Saint-Tropez. The 2017 sale takes place from 27th to 30th October – four days to hunt for bargains in a warm, Indian summer atmosphere!
A golden business event
'Braderie' or clearance sale isn't a word that's used in vain here. The city's retailers all get in on the act with great products and attractive discounts. Lovers of famous brands will enjoy browsing jackets, dresses, shoes and designer handbags and there's plenty to please fans of fine books or contemporary furniture design too. If there really isn't anything you need, or if you've sworn that you won't be tempted by any of the treasures on offer, it's still worth taking a mini tour and revelling in the festive atmosphere that permeates the narrow streets and small squares.
What should you choose?
That's going to be your dilemma of the day – unless of course you're one of those we mentioned a moment ago who has sworn total abstinence. A dress to complement the warm colours of autumn would be a great choice. Especially, if by coincidence, you found a great pair of boots to go with it at a price that was just too good to ignore. That's without even mentioning necklaces made of delicate crystal beads that match the colour of your eyes or a rare artisan piece that you just can't resist. Small pleasures to contemplate over a chilled glass of local rosé wine with other shopping addicts who are as dedicated to the hunt as you.
Autumn flavours at the Bastide
Autumn is well established now and, in keeping with the rhythms of the season and its wonderful products, we've made some changes to our menus. Whether you're dining at our Bistrot or seated at a table in our Olivier restaurant, you'll notice that our menus have been adapted to include the flavours of the moment. Discover gastronomy through healthy products that have been prepared with simplicity and refinement.
Mushrooms, squash and other seasonal delights
The mushroom is undoubtedly the star of the season and we offer it sliced as an accompaniment, seared with parsley or in delicious pies. Our squash couldn't be more local; it comes from Cogolin and you can enjoy it in a velvety soup where it's blended with a light cream of hazelnuts and chanterelles. Celeriac and salsify are also in season, and you'll find them smoked, caramelised or dressed in a salt crust as accompaniments to egg dishes, fillet of Black Angus or suckling pig. Fennel is also in the spotlight and we serve it candied or fresh in salads.
Sweet sweets or tangy sweets
October is also the month for citrus fruits – especially the Tropezian lemon which our chef marries with coriander for a confit of roast duck Saint-Pierre, presents as a condiment with red mullet or as an ingredient in light, subtle desserts. Orange peel enhances the braised beef chuck with red wine. Solliès figs are roasted with honey or port, unless you prefer them on a bed of crisp puff pastry. And, let's not forget the William pear that simply melts under the spoon when served with a cover of fluffy vanilla cream or in sorbets enhanced with laurel. Between the Guanaja chocolate and almonds with cauliflower this very appealing menu will keep gourmets satisfied until the arrival of winter …and our next seasonal menu.
